Bee Hive

This method promotes interaction within the group, helps participants absorb the presented information, and gives them the opportunity to present their questions or further needs.

After a lecture or other presented information participants are asked to exchange opinions. They split into groups of two or three and spend five minutes reflecting on what has been said. The trainer can provide guiding questions such as “How does this topic relate to your work?”, “What further questions do you have related to this topic?”, or “What support do you need for applying these ideas to your life?”

After 5 minutes the trainer can invite each small group to give a short summary of what was discussed or he/she can invite the whole group to present their reflections and questions.


After a lecture, the “Bee hive” activity is an effective way to avoid the awkward silence that often occurs after the trainer asks, “Do you have any questions?”

In groups up to 20 participants it is reasonable to ask each group to summarise their discussion, thus also involving the “silent” group members. But the “Bee hive” is also an effective tool for enlivening the process in larger groups.
